Aoraki/Mount Cook Buttercup flowers are impressive. This was the first inspiration for the Blossom Collection of flower brooches which double as Objets d'Art.

I had in my mind I wanted to represent the dew drops of early morning with Moonstones.

The main brooch is carved from Mother of Pearl Shell. This is a time consuming process of working with both wet and dry machinery and hand tools. Picking the right shell to use is important as it needs to be thick enough to allow me to carve the organic forms of each petal and give the illusion of the petals overlapping.

I have then handcrafted the centre of the flower in 9ct Yellow Gold which features a honey opal set at the centre and stamens of gold. The Moonstones are set in Sterling Silver aswell as the backing plate which clasps itself to the front of the shell with four tendrils of wire. Inscribed into the backing plate is the name of this flower, Aoraki/Mt Cook Buttercup.

The display cabinet is crafted in Oak with a black finish and comes with a wall mount. The cabinet can be opened from the side which allows easy access to the brooch when desired to be worn.

This work combines many hand skills which I have learnt over the years and I have hand crafted this piece from start to finish. This brooch is one of a kind.

Please note this is a large, dramatic brooch with a certain weight to it. This has been designed to wear on a sturdy fabric such as a jacket and is not as well suited to be worn on fine, free flowing fabrics.
