Beautiful Belle - Brooch.

This is a little sweetie and seems to have an uplifting spirit in it's form. I have hand carved this piece from a repurposed piece of antique whale ivory which has two tones of colour being the enamel and the dentine.

The middle of the flower is lit up by a luminous amethyst cabochon set into 18ct Yellow Gold. There is a full backing plate of Sterling Silver which has been inscribed with the name of this piece, Belle.

This brooch also has a special feature of 18ct Yellow Gold set into the crevice of an area of the material which displayed a natural flaw. Inspired by the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold, Kintsugi – ‘the beauty of imperfections’, I have chosen to highlight this flaw by filling it with gold. 

This brooch is one of a kind.

Please note this is a relatively thick material and therefore this brooch has a certain weight to it. Ideally this brooch is best worn on a sturdy fabric such as a jacket and is not as well suited to be worn on fine, free flowing garments.
