Inspired by observations in my own garden, the concept for this piece has been germinating in my mind for months. Through photographing cabbage and spinach leaves in my garden, I also observed the insects that live amongst it. I have always been attracted to the less 'celebrated' creatures in our world, as every living organism plays a role in our ecosystem. It was a joy representing a well fed, mischievous caterpillar leaving his/her trademark behind...
Droplets of water are represented here in this piece by Moonstones set in Sterling Silver. The Leaf itself I have carved from cattle bone and then stained it to this earthy green palette. The caterpillar is crafted in 18ct yellow gold.
