The Dusk Bat Necklace is the sibling to the Sunset Bat Necklace (also part of the Nature Studies collection). The Dusk Bat features a natural Tahitian Semi Baroque Pearl and is paired together with Sterling Silver to create the wings, ears and nose. The little black beady eyes are made from horn and then inlayed.
Baroque Pearls are one of a kind in the way that their shape is irregular and unique. These pearls were often used by ancient goldsmiths who would incorporate a pearl into one of their art pieces (objets d'art), jewellery, or otherwise. The pearl often featured as the body, or head of any number of themes, human, animal, or imaginary. The Dusk Bat is my unconscious nod to continuing that tradition in a modern way, featuring one of my most beloved animals, the bat.
Suspended from a Sterling Silver wheat chain, the bale from which the Bat hangs is hinged to allow extra movement and play.
