This Hei Tiki represents Iwa (Mitochondrial Eve) who in the realm of science is our most recent common female ancestor. All of us as humans alive today can trace ourselves back to her. One of the many stories of traditional Hei Tiki also references the narrative of the first female figure and speaks to the critical role she plays in the balance of all things.
